Class Descriptions

HP LaserJet 2300/2200/2100 (TR-2100)
The 2300, 2200 & 2100 may look very much alike from the outside, but are very different on the inside. The 2200 and 2100 are compared by parts, features and abilities for the business environment. The 2300 has a control panel for easier interaction is also comparable. This course gives service engineers the knowledge they need to correctly and accurately repair all three.

HP LaserJet 4100/4050/4000 (TR-4000)
The 25 ppm 4100 is coupled into the 4050/4000 course due to the visual similarities between the two, even though the differences between the two are many. A great amount of common failure information has been accumulated on the 4000 series of printers. This course will focus on the parts similarities, differences and features between the 4100 and its predecessors, the 4050 and 4000.

HP LaserJet 4200/4300/4250/4350 (TR-4200/4300)
The 35 ppm 4200 is similar enough to the 45 ppm 4300 that these two printers can easily be taught as one. The engine design is totally new, improving upon the LaserJet 4100 in all areas. A primary focus will be the new technology differences between these two printers, as well as a hands on teardown and break fix information

HP LaserJet 5000/5100 (TR-5000)
These durable, large format printers are common. Optional duplexer, 500 sheet feeder and hard drive are covered in addition to standard course material.

HP LaserJet 8150/8100/8000/5Si (TR-5Si/8000)
The 8150 class covers the 72X engine (8150 & 8100) and the WX engine (8000 & 5Si) in a one-day course. The 5Si and 8000 have been out for a number of years and a vast amount of knowledge regarding common failures have been accumulated. Many technicians assume incorrectly that the 8100 and 8150 printers are just like the older 8000 and 5Si. This class will clear up these differences and help any service engineer troubleshoot these printers more quickly and accurately.

HP LaserJet 9000/9050 (TR-9000)
The 50 page per minute 9000 is starting to take off in the market as more technicians are starting to service them in the buisiness place. This one day course will introduce you to the new technologies of this new print engine, which is very different from the 8150. Also covered are common break-fix information to help you quickly diagnose and repair printer problems, test modes, and full tear down, as well as other key information you will need to work on this printer.

HP Color LaserJet 1500/2500 (TR-2500)
These smaller Color LaserJet printers have brought color printing to the entry level workgroup. Though the 1500 and 2500 are small in size, they print big color. This one-day course will take you through the features and teardown as well as the software toolbox that comes with the driver CD, keeping you hopping into the complexity of these color printers.

HP Color LaserJet 4550/4500 (TR-4500)
This two-day course covers the different models of the 4550 and 4500. Also included are color theory, the color laser process, problems and solutions to matching color on the monitor to the printer. The introduction of the color 4500 changed the laser printer market dramatically with its high quality color prints. Service engineers attending this class are given the knowledge they need to quickly diagnose and repair these printers.

HP Color LaserJet 4600/4650/5500 (TR-4600/5500)
At 16 pages per minute in color and black & white, the 4600 is anticipated to become the next staple color printer in the business world, replacing the 4550. This inline color technology is very different in nature as compared to its predecessor. This class will discuss the new advances in color technology, the inline paper path, common break/fix solutions and, as always, a guided teardown of the printer. This class will provide the necessary information and education for a service technician to begin working on and repairing these machines upon their return. This class requires a prerequisite of previous training on a monochrome or color printer due to the complexity of color printing.

HP Color LaserJet 4700/CP4005 (TR-4700)
The CLJ 4700 is the direct replacement to the CLJ 4600 series. The HP CLJ CP4005 is a close cousin to the CLJ 4700 which allows both these units to be assembled into one class. This is a one day class that will discuss all the new advances in color technology, the inline paper path, common failure symptoms and solutions, and a guided teardown of the printer. Color Theory is not included in this one day course, but is a prerequisite. The prerequisite is achieved if the student has taken the Parts Now! CLJ 4600, 4500 or 8500 course, or by taking the Parts Now! online course – Color Theory and Process.

HP Color LaserJet 8550/8500 (TR-8500)
The 8550 printer is unique in that it is being marketed towards the graphic artist and prepress industry. This two-day course covers the different models of the 8550 and 8500. Included are color theory, the color laser process, and problems and solutions to matching color on the monitor to the printer.

Lexmark T / Toshiba 500P (TR-Optra S)
The Lexmark T52X (4520), T62X (4069), T63X (4060) T64X (4061) and Toshiba 500P are the focus of this increasingly popular course. Discussions will include Lexmark terminology as well as the similarities and sometimes vast differences of this broad line of printers. Lexmark laser theory with troubleshooting and break fix information will also be discussed with hands-on teardown.

MFP Fundamentals (TR-MFP)
This class gives technicians the knowledge they need to service both color and monochrome MFPs (Multifunction Printers). This class also focuses on the scanner portion of the MFP and includes theory of operation, paper path, consumables and ADF maintenance kits. Also covered is use of the MFP for copy, scan and faxing applications, along with menus, common break/fix information and trouble-shooting. Upon completion of this one-day course, students will be able to service and repair most lower and mid-range HP laser model MFPs. It is suggested technicians who want a good understanding of the printer functions of these units take the corresponding printer course, as little time will be spent on this in class other than paper path differences and maintenance kits.

DesignJet Fundamentals (TR-DesignJet)
This course will provide students the knowledge they need to begin servicing and supporting HP DesignJets. This is a hands on course utilizing current and older models of DesignJets. Students will learn how these “big inkjets” function in theory and in action. Trouble-shooting, maintenance kits, teardown and proper parts replacements are covered along with basics such as aligning paper, proper parts replacement, performing diagnostics and more. Students need to bring service manuals which are on the DesignJet Support DVD. The service manuals can be purchased through your Parts Now! representative when signing up for class. Students will be able to trouble-shoot, service, and repair and multiple model types of DesignJet printers upon completion of this course.
